We are a group over 50 juniors, ranging in age from 8 to 15, representing a diverse cross section of the community and all with a love for the sport of Triathlon. We meet each Saturday morning, March through October, from 8:30am to 10am at Clearwater Beach for training - with an emphasis on fun.
During the season, we compete in the Bermuda Triathlon Association's full program of races for juniors, with older members often holding their own in senior events. Usually there is a week-long summer triathlon camp. And the Club travels each year to compete in an overseas race. In recent years we alternated between Magog, Quebec in July (even years) and the Chicago Triathlon in August (odd years). Head coach, Neil de ste Croix is a former National Champion. Many of Bermuda’s leading young triathletes began their training with TriHedz, including Tyler Butterfield, who represented Bermuda in Triathlon in the 2004 Olympics and is now a professional cyclist, and Flora Duffy, who placed 8th in the 2006 Commonwealth Games and now competes on the ITU World Cup circuit. Both are Athletes of the year in Bermuda for their performances during 2006. But you don’t need to be a budding superstar to join TriHedz. And you don’t need any experience in triathlon. All you do need is a bicycle (any type will do to get started) in good working order, an approved helmet to wear whenever riding, and you must be able to swim 200m in open water. If you don’t have a bike, it’s often possible to find a used model through our membership network and contacts with the Bermuda Bicycle Association. For membership details click here |
